Search for WTC Remains Expanded
NEW YORK, NY December 30, 2006 —The search for remains of World Trade Center victims is expanding again.
REPORTER: Officials say they have already found several more bone fragments. The city now plans to excavate most of a road around the western perimeter of the trade center site.
This after a test trench in the area led to the discovery of what appear to be remains, as well as computer parts, carpet and other items from the Twin Towers. Until yesterday, no human remains had been found in the trench.
The renewed search began in October, after utility crews found 200 bones in an abandoned manhole at ground zero. The city says the expanded search will cost about $30 million.
