President Bush is once again asking Congress to extend the controversial Patriot Act.
Both House and Senate leaders disagree on making the laws permanent. More than a dozen of the provisions in the bill expire at the end of the year.
Supporters are expected to present legislation Wednesday to eliminate all expiration dates.
The Patriot Act allows expanded surveillance of terror suspects and permitted secret proceedings in immigration cases.
