In the vernacular of the mainstream media, any dialogue or debate that revolves around the unanswered questions, and largely unreported body of knowledge and research that surrounds the attacks of 9/11, quickly digresses into an ontological discussion, with the media itself playing the roll of God, and a hapless public demanding answers reduced to journalistic pagans. The questions themselves become secondary to the bristling hubris of the all-omnipotent mainstream media. It appears much simpler for the mainstream media to simply dismiss hundreds of NY911Truth.org protestors outside of their Manhattan offices as "conspiracy theorists," than to investigate the very salient questions that these protestors demand be investigated.
On October 15th and 16th of this month NY911Truth.org hosted Dr. David Ray Griffin at The Anthology Film Archives and St. Marks Church respectively, for a standing-room only audience of suitably wowed New Yorkers. Dr. Griffin, whose books The New Pearl Harbor and The 9/11 Commission Report: Omissions and Distortions have sparked a worldwide phenomenon of speculation regarding the many disturbing and well-documented facts and evidence associated with the tragedy of 9/11, explored much of this material systematically and with a moral conviction that only a retired Christian theologian, with more than 30 years of teaching experience at the Claremont School of Theology in California can project to an audience.
So well received and attended was Dr. Griffin's speech that many in the audience were willing to stand for hours on end as he spoke, as these venue's seats were quickly consumed by the over-capacity crowd.
Similar to Dr. Griffin's writing style, his presentations were crisp, well organized and deeply credible in that they presented a simple analytical approach to the facts. Yet, a simple survey of the audience itself revealed a general air of frustration, that these facts and unanswered questions remain, four years after the fact, largely unaddressed and uninvestigated by the mainstream media and press. To many, the media blackout on these issues remains as damning a fact as the facts themselves.
But, clearly the movement has grown. As Les Jameson, the northeast director 911Truth.org declared to his overwhelmingly sympathetic audience, "We are no longer a fringe movement."
As thousands of frustrated world-citizens continue to organize and demand full transparency on the issue of 9/11, one is forced to wonder how long it will take for the media to acknowledge the form and substance of the underlying body of knowledge that makes up this collective curiosity. One is forced to wonder how long it will take for the mainstream media to accept their responsibilities, and acknowledge the very cornerstone of their own basic journalistic principals, which is predicated on the public's basic right and mandate to demand answers.
As longtime 9/11 activist Nicholas Levis very succinctly puts it, "It either IS or it ISN'T." [Hmm... when did I say this and in reference to what? I think it refers to my statement that 9/11 is a specific real-world event, not really a question of faith: it either happened a certain way (inside job, demolition) or not. - NL]
Isn't it time that the mainstream media acknowledge this very basic question with the respect it deserves?
