New York, Nov. 5 (VNA) – The World Bank (WB) will disburse between 300 and 500 million USD within weeks to help countries combat bird flu.
This was announced by the WB prior to an international conference on avian flu to be jointly held in Geneva from November 9-11 under the sponsorship of the WB, the World Health Organisation (WHO), the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).
Jim Adams, WB Vice President for Operations Policy and Country Services, said the financial institution plans to help low- income countries have quick access to its grants and soft loans.
The meeting will focus on measures to control bird flu and make a contingency plan for a possible human pandemic.
