Putin urges co-op between countries to maintain world stability

MOSCOW, Nov. 8 (Xinhuanet) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested the worldwide stability can be maintained by taking actual steps to develop comprehensive cooperation between countries, the Interfax news agency reported on Tuesday.
"Cooperation and solidarity are the most relevant components of international relations today. Cooperation is particularly crucial to joint efforts in countering common threats such as terrorism, disease, drug trafficking and organized crime," Putin told a ceremony in the Kremlin, where he received credentials from foreign ambassadors.
The Russian President also emphasized the central role of the United Nations in international affairs.
Despite variety of approaches, all countries should underscore "the need to bolster the coordinating role of the UN and its Security Council as the sole universal mechanism for maintaining peace and stability," Putin noted.
In his view, the international community "is becoming more aware of the fact that joint efforts are the only way to present areliable shield against all these threats and challenges," Putin said.
"Russia has traditionally been open to a sincere dialogue and constructive cooperation," the president noted.
At the ceremony, Putin received credentials of new ambassadors from 11 countries to Russia, including the United States, Germany,the Netherlands, Hungary and Georgia. Enditem
