TEL AVIV, Israel, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- The Israeli air force carried out a successful test of its Arrow 2 anti-ballistic missile system Friday.
A fighter jet dropped a Black Sparrow test missile over the Mediterranean designed to simulate an Iranian Shihab 3 headed for the Israeli coast, the Jerusalem Post reported. Radar intercepted the test missile and issued a signal to launch the Arrow 2 from the Palmachim Air Force Base south of Tel Aviv.
The exercise tested not only the Arrow but Israel's entire missile defense system, the Defense Ministry said.
"The success of the test will improve the existing operational capabilities of the Arrow system that will be able to cope successfully with future threats," said Jacob Toren, director general of the Defense Ministry.
