US women reined in over sex with minors
http://www.thecouriermail.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5936,17428467%255E401,00.html
(ThotPolice:Why is it men are in the spotlight more when it comes to this stuff?)
COURTS across the US are cracking down on women, especially teachers, who have sex with underage boys.
At least seven women, four of them teachers, have been charged or sentenced in the past month.
The flurry of prosecutions follows the sex-abuse scandal in the Catholic Church. Experts say that the trend reflects a growing recognition that sexual abuse of boys can be just as serious as that of girls.
However, the courts are reluctant to punish women as harshly as men convicted of similar crimes. Whereas male abusers of girls routinely receive sentences of 15 to 20 years, women often avoid jail.
A US Department of Education study released last year found that 7 per cent of pupils were victims of physical or sexual abuse by teachers or other school employees. Of those, 22 per cent were abused by a woman.
"Whether a boy might enjoy the attention or not is actually irrelevant," Charol Shakeshaft, a professor at Hofstra University and the author of the report, said.
"Many of the girls who are sexually abused by males say that they are willing or are in love."
The recent prosecutions of teachers follow the celebrated case of Mary Kay Letourneau, a primary school instructor whose affair with a boy she met when he was 12 produced two daughters.
Letourneau, now 42, finally married the boy, who is now 21, after serving seven years in jail for child rape.
Last month Debra Lafave, 25, a middle-school teacher in Florida, avoided jail by striking a deal that will put her under house arrest for three years for having sex repeatedly with a 14-year-old pupil.
Sandra Geisel, 42, was sentenced to six months in jail for having sex with a 16-year-old pupil in upstate New York.
Margaret De Barraicua, 31, will spend a year in prison after being found with a 16-year-old remedial student in her parked car behind their school in California.
A fourth teacher, Kimberly Ann Cordrey-McKinney, 32, was charged with having sex with a 16-year-old pupil after authorities discovered incriminating text messages.
Nicole Barnhart, 36, a teacher from Colorado, faces sexual assault charges after being discovered with a 16-year-old pupil she said had begged her to have sex with him.
One of the cases involving a non-teacher is that of 38-year-old mother of two Julie Ann Welborn.
She has been charged with unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and importuning, after travelling to Ohio to engage in a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old boy she came in contact with through an online role-playing game.

Right hot women are awesome and all but why do the men get 15-20 and the women get house arrest or 6 months.
I think the young girls enjoy it, it is not forced they are willing like the boys. So if it is the same crime doing the same amount of damage why the vast difference in punishment?

I disagree in that I think that the women should have to pay for their crimes as the men do. It's just wrong; even I don't go with a guy who is younger than one or two year(s) of my age. I would feel like I'm robbing the craddle.

The boys who the teachers are doing aren't as messed up themselves by the abuse, but after everyone finds out, they're screwed. What girl would want go out with them? Girls who go through that, everyone feels sorry for them, but there's little to no sympathy for a guy who gets fucked by his teacher.

It's a double standard. The women should do jail time too. It's statutory rape at the least right?
I wonder though... the men seem to molest several boys, while the women usually claim to be in love. Maybe that's the difference? Like that one woman actually married the kid. Pedophiles aren't usually looking to start a family with the kids they abuse you know?
Edit: but on second thought... 18 year old boys are sent to prison for sleeping with their 17 year old girlfriends, so go figure.

I think the woman that married the kid only did so because she was a woman if a guy did the same thing he would be "pervert" all over the front page.
I think it's because our society does not view men/boys as victims, men are so villified in our collective consciense that we often disregard them, this sexist sentancing happens on every level of crime men are always punished more harshly than women, women get away with much more.
And no one cares.

Well this perception that white men are ALL privileged to become middle class is why there are such huge cracks for men to fall thru.
Lots of public attention comes from campaigning to get homeless families off the street but the reality is 75-90% of homeless are single men, the majority of this are white in America Canada and UK.

The truth is the elite never give a damn untill somone makes a lot of noise, just that feminism made a whole lot of noise that changed our perception of men, it is now time to check out the truth and the truth is, people need to be the focus of support not women or blacks all people. The "MAN" likes it when we put blame on men or white men, because it takes the focus off the elite and divides the people allowing them(the elite) to get away with more inaction.

I know the man is a fictional character. I wasn't trying to put emphasis on the actual word "man." I was trying to distinguish between "man" and "the man." Sorry about that. :)
I agree with you to a point. But don't forget to include the "elite" when you speak of helping "people." We're all oppressed by someone in some respect. But yeah, men get the short end of the stick when it comes to help. Definitely! And it's harder for people (i think) to feel sorry for men. People have more compassion for a cat than a man.

You joke but it is a sad truth that most people would be more concernd about a dog or cat in the cold streets than a man.
When we begin to regard men the same way as we regard women and animals then we can say we are humanist society. The fact that we don't shows how backward we still are.

I wouldn't even say it that way. I liked your first point better ("helping people"). Men and women are both treated unfairly, just on different terms. For example, women are privileged to more help, but we pay a price for it in that people assume women are weaker and need that help more than men. It's wrong on both sides.
I think the unfairness towards men is less subtle. The homeless men argument you made is a perfect example of this. Those men really do need help and are not getting it. They are physically suffering and many will probably die from exposure, etc.
The unfairness towards women rears its ugly head through personal ideologies. And we're all guilty of it. No woman is going to die because Victoria's Secret has a runway show on CBS. But girls will grow up obsessed about their weight, which can lead to low self esteem or worse. And shows like that just add to the idea that women are for looking at, dare i say it? It objectifies women...
But not to sound like a total feminazi... hell, I watched the Victoria's Secret show. I think those women are beautiful. And I don't like watching male models because they're too damn pretty to be men. :) But I'm way off the subject now... so I'll stop. Heheh.

It's just that we all think of it as a problem exclusive to women it is not. Look at the gangster lifestyle it creates and capitalizes on young men’s feelings of inadequacy, how many young men try to prove there toughness by getting guns and acting like street thugs? Just when it happens with men we blame the men not the media. Funny as wellthat men are blamed for these unrealistic images of women and not the media.
