Michael Meacher is good guy... he corresponded with me a LOOOOONG time ago.

Well, I'm generally suss of any New Labour politician, but he seemed to actually give a fuck about the Environment when he was Minister for it, and I think as a result he lost his job. Doesn't pay to have any kind of principles under Blair's regime, it seems.
